Porn Piece or The Scars of Cold Kisses

From former norwegian black metal band Ulver and a YouTube user, comes dubbing of David Lynch’s Lost Highway with Ulver’s song Porn Piece or the Scars of Cold Kisses. Lost Highway is probably my favorite Lynch movie because its story actually makes sense. The song isn’t metal, but viewers should watch out for shocking images that Lynch might throw at them.

Lou Dobbs vs. Howard Beale

Submitted (yet again) for your approval:

Lou Dobbs:

Howard Beale:

Lou Dobbs has announced he’s leaving from CNN. Reaction from the left and from the right.

Sidenote: Somebody should make a mashup of Network with current cable news talking heads.

Barton Fink

BartonFink Longtime readers and close friends know that the Coen Brothers are my favorite filmmakers. This weekend, I got a few movies closer to my goal of watching every movie they have ever made. Barton Fink was, without a doubt, a much better movie than Miller’s Crossing (I don’t care what IMDB reviewers think).

Barton Fink revolves around a playwright who moves to Los Angeles after his first major success on Broadway so he can write for the pictures. Fink has no friends in Los Angeles besides his loud next-door neighbor on the sixth floor of a residential hotel. As he struggles to fit in and find a mentor, strange things begin happening and, when an acquaintance winds up dead, the movie goes from strange to surreal.

At it’s heart, the movie is about relationships: a writer to his writing, the business class to the intellectual class, the intellectual class to the working class. Fink was a writer who spoke for the working man but his audience was intellectual. The movie asks whether these interests could ever mutually exist.

From start to finish, I found this to be one of the most engaging Coen brothers movies I have seen. Beautiful cinematography and brilliant writing help to move this literary film along very well.

“At Last, My Arm Is Whole Again.”

Happy Halloween.

Glenn Beck vs. Lewis Prothero

Submitted for your approval.

Lewis Prothero of V for Vendetta:

Glenn Beck:

The Yes Men Strike Again

This time, they get arrested. Also, an opinion piece in tomorrow’s Washington Post. Movie comes out in two weeks.

Art Imitates Life

Doomsday device real. Dr. Strangelove was an inside job.

Cane Toads: An Unnatural History

From my environmental science class.

Inglorious Basterds in Germany

The people of Germany are not exactly reacting in the way you might expect from a country whose history is satired in a very irreverent way to Quentin Tarantino’s new movie.

Frost Nixon Interviews on Netflix Instant

I have been intrigued by Richard Nixon ever since I watched Dick almost ten years ago. This year, my interest was heightened with the release of Frost/Nixon and my watching of All The President’s Men. Both were excellent movies but I wanted to see what the original Nixon interviews were like. Now Netflix has the interviews on instant.

Glenn Beck Meets Howard Beale

Submitted for your approval.

Howard Beale:

Glenn Beck:

Update: Glenn Beck responds to critics on the subject of Howard Beale and goes on sort of a Beale-ian rant in the process:

Subquestion

Barry from High Fidelity reminds me of my roommate last year.

Miller’s Crossing

Can you tell I like the Coen Brothers? This is my favorite movie scene of all time.

Movie Screencaps

Lately, I’ve gotten into the habit of taking screens of movies that i find particularly beautiful. Can any of my three readers figure out what movie these are from?
