Turntable

Turntable

While everybody else in my generation is moving forward with technology, digital music, and all that, I am taking steps in the other direction. Last wednesday, I got an old JVC turntable out of a closet and set it up in my room. Having been born after 1988, I can honestly say I have no recollection of the time before compact discs and almost iPods for that matter. No nostalgia trip here.

Having never set up an audio system from yesteryear, or much audio at all, I ran into some minor complications but overcame them. The first record played was Crosby, Stills & Nash’s self titled album, a classic record.

I decided to look into the vinyls of modern times and it turns out many bands have them. The latest Death Cab for Cutie album, Plans, was released in vinyl by their old label, Barsuk. The Decemberists also released a vinyl of Picaresque on Jealous Butcher Records.

What kind of Indie are you?

I have left you for over a month and now I return to you with a quiz. I don’t normally post quizes but I felt this one was particularly on the ball. So I ask, What kind of indie are you?

You’re an Indie Pop Kid. You like songs about
relationships and the prettiness of nature.
You’re sentimental, but not certainly not emo.
Oh, and if you aren’t an English Major, you
should be.
