Street Scene Roundup

Oh god! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. My summer has been quite tiring and I haven’t had much time to blog. I think I’ll catch up with my wonderful review of street scene, San Diego’s best music festival.

Friday, I arrived at about 3:45 only to wait over a half hour for the gates to open. The first bands were not that great but my favorite was Hard-fi, mostly because they’re British. I walked around and saw almost everybody up to Flogging Molly, the only show I watched all the way through. After Flogging Molly I went and saw most of the other groups.

Saturday had a better lineup but not as many of my friends went. I started off with my favorite underground hip-hop group, The Perceptionists. They would’ve had an awesome show had their sound system not been so crappy. I walked around, saw the end of Spoon and the beginning of Death Cab for Cutie. Death Cab was a pretty good show except they kept switching guitars and the sound engineers would have to find them again. I went to see the Von Bondies which were another disappointment. I met up with some more friends and went over to see Dashboard Confessional.

After dinner, I made the mistake of walking over to see The Used. I went back to see the Flaming Lips which definitely had the best showmanship out of anybody at the entire festival. My favorite band was the Pixies whose performance was beyond words.

Overall it was very fun and I’m not sure how all of the 65,000 people could’ve possibly fit in the Gaslamp Quarter.
