Coloring Books

Yesterday, Mark Frauenfelder posted about how he and his daughter enjoy Ed Emberly books. I looked through a few on Amazon and I realized that I used to have at least one of his books when I was younger. I was suddenly inspired to get my box of crayons out and color. Luckily, I have not thrown a few of my animal coloring books and, this afternoon, I entertained myself by coloring. I had to think outside the box so I colored the black bears purple and the blue whales rainbow. :-D

Mental Note

Bring camera whenever leaving the house.

Gunner Palace

Gunner Palace

There is a new movie about the Iraq war coming out called “Gunner Palace“. The cool part about this movie, however, is that it is about the war from inside the war, told first-hand by the troops.

The filmmaker, Michael Tucker, lived with 2/3 Field Artillery for two months. Tucker lived in Uday Hussein’s former palace, nicknamed “Gunner Palace”. This film captures a rare glimpse of the day-to-day lives of soldiers.

Dave Winers problem, solved (or at least a little)…

A few days ago, Dave Winer was ranting about the solution to a big problem on the internet. Comment Spam. Six Apart has posted about something called nofollow but the problem is, none of their links work (or worked when this was posted). Comment spam is a big problem, and google has given a nice solution to it, nofollow. Somebody tags their links with rel=”nofollow” and google won’t pagerank it. Sam Ruby posted about it a few days ago as well but not many people see it as a big blow to the comment spammers though.

Become an A-List Blogger!

Joe over at the evangelical outpost posts about how to become an A-List blogger. He says there are three ways to become an a list blogger:

A. Possess the attributes of the top ten bloggers (e.g., white American male Ivy League-educated lawyer/journalist/academic). (For more see: Notes on Blogging #9 — How to Become a Higher Being)

B. Be hired by Nick Denton, the foremost blog entrepreneur and purveyor of smut/gossip/smutty gossip within the blogosphere.

C. Follow the “Morrissey Method.”

He explains the story of Ed Morrissey and his rapid rise in the blogging world. Overall, a pretty good explanation of A-List blogging. Have we had enough of these yet?

Goals for 2005

Like so many other people do on the first of the year, I have decided to lay out some goals for the upcoming year. I have no idea how I will keep to these but I think they are all feasible.

  • Pay for Flickr, ecto, and NetNewsWire – In total that’s quite a bit of money. I’m probably going to pay for flickr first, since it will be getting more expensive. Ecto will come next because ado is the coolest and then NetNewsWire.
  • Learn at least one programming language – I probably say this every year. Any suggestions for languages to learn? I’m thinking about Objective-C and/or python.
  • Write better – My English teacher can help with that…
  • Blog more consistently – I go for weeks at a time without posting, that needs to be changed.
  • Take loads of pictures – This goes with flickr. Look at my photos.
  • Learn the guitar:-D

I probably have a lot more, I just can’t think of them.
